Vettaiyan Movie Review

In Tamil cinema, cops have often been portrayed as trigger-happy figures, a trend that seems to persist. This makes a film like Vettaiyan particularly significant. It’s high time that Tamil and Indian cinema reassess the glorification of police officers, especially concerning encounter killings. For too long, we've seen films depicting cops who strut around in aviators, exuding charisma, while they eliminate suspects without allowing them their due process in the judicial system. However, Vettaiyan struggles with a critical flaw: it ends up glorifying its protagonist, a trigger-happy cop named Athiyan, played by Rajinikanth, for too long. This excessive glorification dilutes the film's intended message, making it difficult for any real impact to resonate by the time the narrative shifts.
